Abstract

• A closed-form solution for the failure pressure of composite repaired pipelines was developed by theoretical analysis based on a homogenized three-layer thin-walled framework. • A failure pressure assessment of framework incorporating defect width and putty was proposed on the concept of equivalent treatment of the corroded pipe layer. • The proposed analytical model shows a higher accuracy in evaluating the failure pressure of composite repaired pipelines than other publicly available criteria. • The most accurate solution is based on the assumption of the same radial displacement of each layer, showing a remarkably low error margin of only 6.7%.
