Abstract

• We propose a distributed-parallel spline simulator (DPLS) for solving the viscoelastic wave equation. • Stability conditions for SMOS-DPLS are validated by comparing with 1D analytic solutions. • SMOS-DPLS achieves fourth-order accuracy with perfectly matched boundary conditions. • SMOS-DPLS shows a speedup ratio over 50 on a 2D homogeneous medium with 15003 grid points. • The numerical solutions are implemented for 3D large-scale and variable-Q overthrust models.
