• Instability, zonal to local circulation, topography, and dust supply primarily drive storm growth. • Unstable layers reach a maximum of 25 km, while the latitudinal extent is season-dependent. • Stable layers with bridge like structure form during the expansion phase of the storms. • The storms and the Hadley circulation transport dust up to 25–60 km at various locations. • Jezero crater experiences considerable temperature, pressure, and humidity shifts during the storms.
