As populations continue to grow, the demand for ornamental stones in construction is rising steadily accelerating the consumption of natural resources and generating increasing amounts of solid waste. A practical way to address this challenge is to recover industrial minerals from granite waste. Many researchers favor flotation methods for recovering muscovite and feldspar, experimenting with different reagents to improve efficiency. Although the muscovite crystalline structure is not, in theory, the most favorable for flotation, its morphology gives it notable floatability when suitable collectors are applied. This shows that flotation performance depends not only on crystal structure, but also on mineral shape, surface chemistry, and processing conditions. The critical analysis of the different reagent systems used in flotation processes reveals that mixed systems enhance muscovite recovery to varying degrees, with optimal ratios and dosages determined by the specific combinations employed. The presence of opposite charges or nonionic reagents promotes the formation of more compact collector layers on the mineral surface, increasing the hydrophobicity of mica particles, and facilitating their attachment to air bubbles and thereby improving flotation selectivity. These combinations claim to be selective, cost-efficient method suitable for complex ores, with promising industrial applications.
