• Emission inventory for 14 trace elements from 12 non-ferrous metal smelting industries in China over 2010–2021 were constructed. • Copper, lead, zinc, and aluminum smelting industries were the main emission sources. • The contribution of primary smelting industries was much higher than that of secondary smelting industries. • The central and southern China were the main emission areas.
