Atomic-Scale Investigation of Mirrorlike Structures in Multi-Oriented η Particles in an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Aluminum Alloy

Abstract
En 中文
• Mirrorlike structures with two distinct mirror planes, (20 5)η and (20 1)η, were identified in multi-oriented η precipitates in an Al–Zn–Mg–Cu aluminum alloy. • These mirrorlike structures were found to form through both coalescence and growth mechanisms. • Localized mirrorlike structures introduced numerous defects that may hinder dislocation motion within the η phase. • The formation mechanism of pentagonal defects is identified, revealing that they originate from 360° surrounding mirror-like structures.
