• A Mn single-atom catalyst (Mn@NC) was synthesized via pyrolysis of Mn-doped ZIF-8. • The Mn@NC catalyst exhibited a high FDCA yield of 95.7% under mild conditions. • Excellent recyclability with minimal activity loss after five cycles was achieved. • Single-atom design overcomes site poisoning and ensures robust stability.
