Personalized pattern generation plays a vital role in the production of personalized garments, enhancing production efficiency, ensuring fit, and minimizing resource consumption. Design-preserving pattern transfer facilitates the rapid acquisition of the necessary patterns for garments tailored to individuals of varying body shapes, making it indispensable for made-to-measure or mass customization. In this paper, we present a novel method for design-preserving virtual pattern transfer. The proposed approach reformulates the pattern transfer problem as a linear equation system based on mesh deformation transfer, similar to garment transfer. The target garment is first obtained by virtual garment transfer and collision refinement. Second, the one-to-one face and vertex correspondence between the source garment, target garment, and source pattern is established by parsing the source pattern and segmenting the source and target garment. Third, the target pattern triangle soup can be solved through deformation transfer after co-aligning the corresponding triangles of the source garment, source pattern, and target garment in the 2D plane. Then, the target pattern can be obtained by stitching the target pattern triangle soup with curvature constraint. Finally, the boundary of the target pattern is written into a DXF file using ezdxf. Given the source garment, source pattern, and target garment, our method can automatically generate the corresponding pattern of the target garment. We test with different garments to validate the applicability and effectiveness of our method. The experimental results show that our method can be applied to different garments and that the target pattern can preserve the designed details of the source pattern. Furthermore, a new evaluation method based on area and curvature preservation is introduced. Our proposed method is simple, effective, fast, and fully automatic. Therefore, it has significant potential for improving the efficiency of personalized pattern development.
