• Ball-milled MnO2 achieves 91% lignin depolymerization at 35 °C via β-O-4/β-1 cleavage. • $1 of MnO2 boosts straw blanket profit by $476 in scalable industrial production. • The straw blanket shows ∼ 90% lower environmental impact vs. straw particleboard. • Oxygen vacancies in MnO2 drive catalysis via generated Mn3+ and O2−. • Bm-MnO2 (180  min) achieves 91% depolymerization, yielding $476 profit per $1 cost.
