Abstract
En 中文
Strangely, American black bears come in many colours. New work by Puckett et al. shows that a mis-sense alteration in the gene en-coding tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TYRP1) likely interferes with mela-nin synthesis and is responsible for the cinnamon colour variant in the southwest USA. However, the adap-tive significance of colour poly-morphisms in this large carnivore remains opaque.
