• A dual functionality material was constructed through in-situ growth of sulfonated COF-(SO3H)2 on MXenes substrates. • MX@COF-(SO3H)2 reavels high-performance Li−S battery separators. • Fe/Ni-MX@COF-(SO3H)2 exhibits a low overpotential of 314 mV (10 mA cm−2) in electrocatalytic OER.
