• Mesoporous polydopamine doped with tetrasulfide bonds were fabricated for the first time. • It has satisfactory photothermal conversion efficiency and effective intracellular GSH consumption. • Potent PTT and ROS generation were achieved for in vitro and in vivo tumor cell killing.
