Abstract
En 中文
Bisexual, pansexual, fluid, and other plurisexual (bi+) individuals are a large population whose romantic relationships are diverse and include partners whose genders and sexual orientations are similar to and different from their own. As such, their experiences offer unique insights regarding challenges and strategies in navigating romantic relationship initiation. A mixed-method approach was used to describe bi + romantic relationship initiation. A survey of college students in Phase 1 revealed bi + participants used a variety of verbal and nonverbal cues to initiate romantic relationships in several settings. Participants in small group interviews (Phase 2) generated a model of bi + romantic relationship initiation that emphasized agency, adaptiveness, and flexibility. Our studies highlight the benefits of centering bi + experiences.
