Outdoor air infiltration and return air energy transfer are two building energy consumption paths that are unstable and cannot be accurately modeled over time. These ghost energy paths can vary from hour to hour if not by minute and waste significant energy that must be eliminated in real buildings to achieve stable building energy use that can be accurately modeled. In this article, these two paths will be analyzed with a 24-hour model applied to the 26-story office tower as defined by Figure 1 of Reference 1 on the summer design day and typical fall weather.
