Abstract

• The ∼ 870 Ma Pinghe alkaline complex exhibits a distinct decoupled Ca–Mg isotope signature. • Its elemental and Sr–Nd isotopic characteristics are consistent with those of global alkaline provinces. • Isotopic modeling indicates a magma source influenced by slab–derived, carbonate–rich hydrous melts. • The Micangshan province formed in a continental margin rift, not in an intraplate setting. • Combined Ca–Mg isotopes provide a robust tracer for carbonate recycling in mantle–derived magmas.
