• CaCO3 hydrogenation to CH4 using natural limestone and a Ni-based catalyst. • Remarkable CH4 production is achieved between 500 ºC and 550 ºC. • CH4 reaches 9.46% at 8 bar and 550 ºC, close to the thermodynamic equilibrium. • Integration with sorption-enhanced methanation improves the overall CH4 yield.
