• Bimetallic porphyrin-based COFs were constructed for enhancing OER activity. • Optimal OER performance based on the synergistic effect was achieved by tuning Ni/Co ratios. • Carbonization of bimetallic COFs greatly boosted OER activity with excellent stability. • This work provides a rational design strategy for bimetallic OER electrocatalysts.
