• Catalyst-engineered Au-SnO2 nanorods exhibited superior acetone sensing. • The mini-GC platform achieved selective acetone detection down to 0.01 ppm. • Hydrogen, isoprene, and acetone were chromatographically discriminated. • Enhanced sensing originated from oxygen-vacancy-rich Au-SnO2 interfaces. • The platform enables multi-biomarker metabolic monitoring via breath analysis.
