● Chalcopyrite modification raised nosZ gene abundance and reduced N2O flux by 40.3%. ● N2O-reducing bacterium Gemmatimonadota was enriched in chalcopyrite bioretention. ● Mineral characterization confirmed chalcopyrite-driven autotrophic denitrification. ● Cu, S, and Fe ions released from chalcopyrite participated in bioretention N cycle.
