• Experimental mechanical characterization of extruded HDPE (PE100-RC) for offshore deepwater applications. • Primary and secondary stages account for 60% of the total creep time to failure. • Long-term creep life of HDPE was not affected by specimen thickness. • Failure mode changes from fatigue fracture at R=−1 to cyclic creep at R=0.1. • Welding reduces fatigue life at R=−1, but it does not influence cyclic creep at R=0.1.
