This paper explores the nature of leader-follower ties in charismatic movements. To do this, the paper draws heavily on ideas derived from Intersubjective Self Psychology (ISP) to explore some of the personality configurations, intra-group relations, desires, and fantasies that have shaped the MAGA movement and other recent charismatic movements. The paper argues that charisma is a phenomenon that deserves more attention from both psychoanalysts and social scientists, and it makes a plea for renewed interdisciplinary interest in charisma given the current political situation in the U.S.
