Abstract

• Most participants, particularly physicians estimated they and their colleagues underdetect suspected child maltreatment. • Parenthood was significantly and negatively associated with staff confidence in detecting neglect, physical, sexual abuse. • Prior academic or departmental training in child maltreatment did not play a notable role in practice.
