-The work has demonstrated that high-molecular chitosan enhances the lytic effect of lysostaphin on Staphylococcus aureus cells. More efficient lysis of bacterial cell walls by lysostaphin in the presence of chitosan made it possible to extract larger amounts of high molecular weight DNA suitable for sequencing from bacterial cells.
