• Children with SLD exhibit higher subjective daytime sleepiness than those with ADHD. • Polysomnography reveals greater NREM sleep fragmentation and higher respiratory arousal indices in children with SLD and SLD–ADHD, whereas insomnia complaints predominate in ADHD. • Sleep disturbances in SLD appear partly independent of anxiety, suggesting a specific sleep profile. • Distinct subjective and objective sleep patterns may differentiate SLD from ADHD in sleep-clinic referred children. • Systematic sleep assessment should be considered in children with SLD, given the high prevalence of sleep alterations.
