• Government of Tamil Nadu launched a first of a its kind initiative in India by launching a statewide, multi-centric programme dedicated for the rescue, treatment, rehabilitation, and reintegration, of homeless persons with mental illness (HPWMI). • This is the first study from documenting the socio-demographic profile and the clinical and social outcomes of HPWMI admitted to multiple centres across the state. • The study documents that the ECRCs model improved clinical and social outcomes HPWMI evidenced by clinical improvement, family reintegration and access to social entitlements • The model has the potential to be replicated in settings facing similar challenges.
