• Synthesis of carbon-free BaCeO3 by co-precipitation has been achieved. • Several co-precipitation agents and cerium sources were compared. • The effect of annealing temperature was studied. • Elimination of carbonates has been confirmed. • An average particle size below 1µm has been observed.
