Abstract

• Moderate N reduction with Chlorella improved NUE without yield penalty. • Reduced N plus Chlorella was associated with lower oxidized-N dominance. • Dissolved inorganic N remained stable despite lower total soil N. • Bacterial diversity increased and community composition shifted across trials. • Findings suggest a potential buffering effect on inorganic-N availability.
