Complex modulation Diffractive Optical Elements implemented in a single Spatial Light Modulator

Abstract

• Complex modulation DOEs are obtained using a single-pass SLM operation. • An evenly filling of the Argand plane with the modulation curve of the SLM enhances the efficiency of complex DOEs. • A modified Iterative Fourier Transform Algorithm is developed for the design of complex DOEs. • Experiments show an 85% reduction in background noise using a complex DOE over a pure-phase DOE. • The diffraction efficiency increases up to 30% with complex DOEs compared with pure-phase DOEs.
