• Fatigue behaviour of TPU foams is investigated at different relative densities. • Physical gas foaming enables high-precision sample preparation. • Damage rate and residual strain accumulation decrease with relative density. • Absorbed, released, and dissipated energy increase with relative density. • Fatigue-damaged cells show pinholes and cracks after cyclic compression.
