• Porous PES/SPSf hybrid membrane was fabricated via phase inversion for PEMFC humidification. • The synergistic combination of hydrophilic -SO3H groups and a refined pore structure enhances water transport. • The optimal membrane exhibits a higher water vapor permeability of 2917 GPU and a selectivity of 1307.
