• A binary BiFeWO6/g-C3N4 composite was ingeniously designed and prepared via a facile route. • The optimal BiFeWO6/g-C3N4 material exhibited significantly enhanced degradation efficiency toward RhB compared to nude g-C3N4 and BiFeWO6. • The active species trapping experiments verified that the superoxide radicals (•O2-) is the main active species.
