• The two novel supramolecular salts derived from natural alkaloid dyes and sulfosalicylic acid were synthesized upon recrystallization. • It is found that supramolecular salts exhibited enhancing emission lifetime. • Cotton fabric dyed with these dyes had acceptable antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
