• A core-shell PADP@AHNT hybrid flame retardant was designed and fabricated. • The hybrid enhanced EP flame retardancy and suppressed heat/smoke release. • EP/5PADP@AHNT showed 104.2% higher impact strength than pure EP. • The composite showed reduced dielectric constant and dielectric loss.
