• A facile cross-linking modification method that meets well with large-scale industrial manufacturing has been proposed for the first time. • Both the record upper limit operation temperature and energy storage performance of cross-linked PP films are achieved simultaneously. • The mechanism for the enhanced electrical performances has been clarified, the cross-linked structure reduces conduction losses.
