Abstract

• A differentiable Material Point Method (DiffMPM) framework is developed for structural damage identification. • The method estimates spatially varying elastic fields from dynamic strain data via gradient-based optimization. • DiffMPM is physics-based and interpretable, directly enforcing continuum mechanics without requiring training data. • Numerical experiments demonstrate robust damage identification across various damage scenarios and sensor layouts.
