• Feasibility of cement-making process electrification and costs evaluated. • System combines renewable power generation with hybrid energy storage. • Different techno-economic scenarios were analyzed for three EU countries. • CO2 emission reduction of up to 45% was achieved compared to state-of-the-art. • Hybrid solar–wind configuration offers the lowest levelized cost of electricity.
