Abstract

• A novel ultrasound-triggered delayed chemiluminescence phenomenon is reported for the luminol–ascorbic acid system. • The delay duration and emission intensity are linearly correlated with ascorbic acid concentration down to the nanomolar range. • Cobalt and carbonate ions play essential catalytic roles in enhancing and sustaining the delayed emission • The method demonstrates high selectivity for ascorbic acid and has been successfully applied to the analysis of real samples from beverages and supplements.
