• A kirigami-inspired thick-panel deployable system that can deploy to a flat surface and carry load. • Rapid lumped parameter simulation for both kinematics and load-bearing. • Optimization method to find latch lock locations for high stiffness. • Experimentally evaluate the simulation and optimization results. • Open-access MATLAB package to implement the simulation and optimization.
