• 24-h spatiotemporally continuous near-surface NO2 over China is estimated. • GEMS satellite data and GEOS-CF simulation data are integrated for 24-h modeling. • Near-surface hourly NO2 estimates show good performance (cross-validation R2 > 0.75). • Day-night NO2 variations and NO2 changes during heavy rainfall events are examined.
