• FTIR-T identifies melting transitions in semicrystalline biodegradable polyesters. • Wavenumber shifts suggest molecular disorder during lamellar melting. • Intensity variations mainly reflect thermo-mechanical softening at ATR interface. • Coupled FTIR-T, DSC and DMA distinguish structural and rheological effects. • FTIR-T can provide complementary informations of polymer thermal transitions.
