This paper aims to develop a new hybrid nanocomposite based on tungsten oxide (WO3)/polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP)/polyethylene glycol (PEG) for efficient organic photosensors. Hence, PVP:PEG spin-coated blend films were doped with different WO3 concentrations to improve the optical and electrical properties. The structural variations of the prepared nanocomposite films were studied using the X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique, while the molecular structure was examined using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) technique. Polycrystalline nanostructured films were adopted with the highest crystallinity at 20 wt. % of WO3. Additionally, a UV-Visible-NIR spectrophotometer was employed for studying the optical transmission characteristics of the prepared thin films. The inclusion of WO3 in the PVP:PEG improved its optical absorption characteristics with a notable blueshift of the energy gap. The value of energy gap and Urbach energy were extracted using different approaches yielding the smallest value at 20 wt. % of WO3. The linear refractive index was calculated based on the extracted energy gap using different models. Finally, the photoelectrical (J-V-Pin) properties of the prepared WO3:PVP:PEG thin films in an MPS Schottky-based device were tested under different intensities of illumination. The junction parameters were calculated using thermionic emission and Nored's function models. Besides, the interface states density profile of each device was assessed. The responsivity, linearity, and switching speed of the fabricated devices were estimated. The superiority of the fabricated films for photo-sensing applications was revealed based on the discussed structural, optical, and photoelectrical characteristics.
