It is a well-established fact that boys show a superiority in technical aptitude test scores over girls. The current emphasis on orientation of girls towards technical curricula has reactualized interest in the study of technical aptitude. The present study was designed to: -confirm boys'' superiority in a technical reasoning test (the T.P.G.); -investigate whether boys and girls employed an identical approach to technical problem solving. The results, based on a population of 3 grade students are the following: -regardless of age or socio-economic milieu, boys do better than girls on the technical test used (the T.P.G.); -correlations between the T.P.G. and other tests in the battery indicate that the T.P.G. is the most highly correlated with the spatial test for boys, and with the verbal reasoning test for girls. The internal analysis of the T.P.G. confirms boy''s superiority (with the exception of one sub-test) and the fact that they make use of their spatial abilities to solve items whereas girls employ a form of reasoning based on a verbal translation of the items.
