Distributed coordinate measurement systems are widely used in manufacturing industries. The common-mode error introduced by imperfect mechanical structures, temperature and humidity variation degrade the performance of these systems. However, little attention has been paid to the methods for suppressing common-mode errors. In this paper, a differential information-based method is proposed to mitigate common-mode errors. The proposed method reduces the influence of common-mode errors on spatial measurement accuracy based on the time-space mapping relationship introduced by the rotating laser plane. Additionally, a plane intersection model is introduced to enhance measurement results in real time. Virtual measurement constraints are established using the differential measurement information and the spatial datum to calculate the coordinates of the target. The proposed method is validated in a 12 m x 5 m x 3 m area, and the results show that the measurement accuracy of 14 ERS points has improved from 0.3 mm to 0.12 mm when compared to the traditional method.
