Diffusion study by diffusion quadruple experiment and two-dimensional simulation

In the present work, for the first time a single-phase diffusion quadruple was assembled and analyzed to deduce diffusivities by the numerical inverse method via two-dimensional (2D) simulation implemented with the tri-angle mesh. The present new scheme dealing with only one diffusion quadruple benefits from the 2D composition distribution covering a much wider composition range than a few diffusion couples or one triple can handle. A diffusion quadruple, which is assembled with fewer experimental procedures for one sample under identical conditions, reduces the risk of producing abundant experimental data but with uneven quality that is commonly confronted when treating separately prepared diffusion couples or triples. Finally, it was successfully applied to the Co-Cr-Ni system.
