• Methane is not stable in pyrolite melts or in the vapor phase at temperatures greater than 3000 K. • While methane does not appear to dissociate at 2000 K, neither does it readily form. • Methane was likely not a significant component of the early Earth’s magma ocean or early atmosphere.
