• Anoxia released Mn strongly; 2.6 mg L-1 DO suppressed mobilization. • Fe and P stayed low, indicating strong sediment retention pathways. • EEMs revealed selective export of FA-like DOM over protein-like signals. • Nernst and diffusion frameworks explain coupled Mn and DOM behavior. • Lake Biwa incubations provide testable hypotheses for hypoxic lakes.
