• Biochar addition had significant increase soil microbial respiration, especially in macroaggregates (2000–250 um). • The addition of biochar enhanced the certainty and stability of soil microbial community establishment. • The addition of biochar changed the number of particular microorganisms in the aggregates, especially in the microaggregates.
