• Wang (2024) used the Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI) and Average Percentile (AP) to compare the performance of the top 1000 universities. • Wang (2024) reports low to medium correlations between both indicators for the top universities when including all document types. • We obtained a high correlation between the CNCI and AP indicators when restricting the document types to articles and reviews (which is standard in bibliometrics). • Our result further weakens the claim in Wang (2024) that averaging the AP scores caused a large error effect on practical research evaluation results.
