• Life cycle assessment compared bioconcrete with conventional bridge deck repair. • Fungi healing had lower environmental impacts than bacterial approach. • Epoxy repair for mild cracks showed 99% lower carbon footprint than bioconcrete. • For severe cracks, bioconcrete had 50%-76% lower footprint than polymer overlays. • Repeated healing is key to making bioconcrete a conventional repair alternative.
