• Amine chain length systematically governs polyamide crosslinking density and membrane performance. • DETA-based membrane achieved optimal balance between Hg2+ rejection and pure water permeability. • N,S-CDs were encapsulated into the PA layer, endowing the membrane with dual functionality. • The CDs-DETA-PA membrane exhibited sensitive Hg2+ detection and excellent selectivity.
